Closing the Permit Matters as Much as Opening It
Kent has required building permits since 1960, and the Town closes each one out with a Certificate of Occupancy or a Certificate of Compliance. The final paperwork is what a buyer’s attorney looks for years later. A siding job that was never closed out can hold up a sale. Your Guardian project manager books the final inspection and doesn’t consider the job done until the certificate is issued.
Before we file, we check the house’s history. Older Kent homes sometimes have a porch enclosure or addition with no record, and it’s better to know that before new siding goes over it. Applications go to the Town Center at 25 Sybil’s Crossing in Kent Lakes (845-306-5620), with our Putnam County license, insurance certificates and your signatures.

Where Kent Houses Meet the Water
Kent is named for an early settler family, and many of its lakes are reservoirs for New York City. Col. Henry Ludington, whose daughter Sybil made her famous 1777 ride to rally his militia, lived where Interstate 84 now crosses Ludingtonville Road. Today the town is mostly homes on lakes, hills and wooded lots, and when a project falls within 100 feet of a wetland, the Planning Board reviews it before a building permit can be issued.
On these lots we keep debris contained and away from the water, stage materials on the driveway and catch nails on tarps. The siding goes over a new water barrier, with flashing at every deck, porch and opening. The photo shows a finished Guardian siding job.

Kent Siding FAQs
Since when has Kent required building permits?
According to the Town of Kent, permits have been required since 1960, and every permit is closed out with a Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Compliance. If earlier work on your house was never closed out, we’ll tell you before it becomes a problem at sale time.
How long does a Kent permit take?
The Town says to allow 14 to 21 days. We file as soon as you sign so the permit is in hand when materials arrive.
When are stamped plans required?
Kent requires stamped plans for work valued over $20,000. A large re-siding job with framing repairs can reach that, and we tell you up front if yours will.
My house is near a wetland. Does that change anything?
Yes. Work within 100 feet of a wetland goes to the Planning Board before a building permit is issued. Many Kent homes are near lakes, streams or reservoirs, so we check early.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
