Interior Demolition in Carmel, NY
Westchester & Putnam Interior Demolition Service Serving Carmel
Selective and interior demolition for Carmel remodels: kitchens, bathrooms, basements and wall removals, with testing, dust control, shoring and debris removal handled by a local contractor in business since 1980.
Demolition Is the First Step of a Good Remodel
Careful demolition makes the rest of a project easier. When we take out a kitchen, a bathroom or a wall in a Carmel home, the goal is to remove exactly what has to go, protect everything that stays, and uncover the house’s problems before new work covers them up.
That means cutting drywall along clean lines, capping plumbing and making wiring safe, keeping floors and stairs protected, and documenting what we find behind the walls. That record shows rot, old wiring, missing insulation or past leaks so your remodel can deal with them.

Before the First Swing
Asbestos survey
Required in NY for many pre-1974 buildings before disturbing materials. Old floor tile, mastic, plaster and pipe wrap are common sources.
Lead-safe work
Pre-1978 paint is handled with EPA lead-safe practices and containment.
Utilities
Water, gas and electric isolated or disconnected by licensed trades.
Structure
An engineer’s plan and temporary shoring before any load-bearing wall comes out.
What We Demolish in Carmel Homes
- Kitchens and bathrooms, down to the studs and subfloor if needed.
- Old basement finishes after water damage, including wet drywall, carpet and paneling.
- Interior walls for open layouts, both partition and load-bearing.
- Drop ceilings, plaster ceilings and old flooring layers.
- Decks, sheds and small outbuildings, with permits where required.
We size and place the dumpster so it doesn’t sit on your septic field, lawn or a neighbor’s sightline, and we haul and recycle metals where possible.
Carmel Demolition FAQs
Is an asbestos survey required before interior demolition?
In New York State, Industrial Code Rule 56 generally requires an asbestos survey by a licensed inspector before demolition or renovation work disturbs materials in buildings built before 1974. If asbestos is found, a licensed abatement contractor removes it before our demolition starts.
Do I need a permit for interior demolition?
Interior demolition is usually covered by the building permit for the remodel that follows. Demolishing a whole structure, such as a garage or house, generally needs its own demolition permit and utility disconnections. The Town of Carmel Building Department confirms what applies.
Can you take out a load-bearing wall?
Yes, with an engineer’s design. We install temporary shoring, remove the wall, and set the new beam and posts on proper support before the shoring comes out.
How do you control dust?
We seal off the work area with plastic barriers and zippered doors, cover HVAC returns, use negative air with HEPA filtration where needed, and protect floors on the way out.
Will heavy equipment damage our septic system?
It can. We keep trucks and dumpsters off the septic field and the well area, and we plan the dumpster location with you before work starts.
