Siding in Rye, NY
Westchester Siding Service Serving Rye
Siding replacement and repair for Rye homes, built for wind and salt off Long Island Sound. City filing and Board of Architectural Review drawings prepared by our team.
Siding That Faces the Sound
Rye’s shoreline puts many houses in the path of storms coming up Long Island Sound. Wind-driven rain is what tests siding: it pushes water up and behind laps, into corners and around every opening. The salt in the air does slower damage to fasteners, flashing and cheap trim.
That’s why our Rye estimates spell out what goes under the siding: sheathing repairs, a lapped barrier, flashing at every door, deck ledger and roof-to-wall joint, and fasteners chosen for the location. The siding is the part you see; those layers are what keep the walls dry.

The City Process for Exterior Work
The Building Department at City Hall, 1051 Boston Post Road, takes exterior work on the City’s Building Permit and BAR Application. Applications that would change a house’s exterior appearance go to the Board of Architectural Review unless they qualify as small projects, and the Board weighs the design of existing structures nearby and the character of the area.
Applications include all affected elevations. For siding, that usually means photographs and drawings of each wall being re-sided, with the new material, color and trim called out. Rye also has history close by: the Boston Post Road Historic District, a National Historic Landmark of about 286 acres that includes the Jay Estate. If your house is on or near it, we check for extra review early.

Rye Siding FAQs
Do I need a permit for new siding in Rye?
Exterior work is filed with the City’s Building Department on its Building Permit and BAR Application. We confirm what your scope needs and prepare the filing.
Will the Board of Architectural Review see my siding job?
If it would affect the exterior appearance of the house and isn’t a small project, the Building Inspector refers it to the Board within 31 days of the application. The seven-member Board’s mission is to safeguard and preserve neighborhood character.
What material holds up best near the water?
Every material can work if it’s installed for the exposure. Near the Sound we focus on corrosion-resistant fasteners and flashing, a well-lapped water-resistive barrier, and finishes rated for sun and salt. We’ll walk you through the trade-offs for your house.
Our house is in a flood zone. Anything to know?
Rye’s Building Department administers construction in FEMA-designated flood zones and issues floodplain management permits. Siding alone usually isn’t affected, but if the work is part of a bigger renovation, we check the flood rules first.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
