Westchester Siding Service Serving Harrison

Siding Review in Harrison
Harrison is a coterminous town and village, so one Building Department at 1 Heineman Place handles permits for the whole community, and one seven-member Architectural Review Board reviews exterior design. Under the Town code, at least one ARB member must be a registered architect, and the Board’s job is to keep each building in keeping with its area.
For siding, the Board wants to see the house in context. That’s why we photograph your house and the neighboring houses, draw each altered elevation, and specify the profile, color and trim before the meeting.

What Changes the Look (and What Doesn't)
Like-for-like repair
Replacing damaged sections in the same material and color.
Color change
A new color scheme on the same profile, usually reviewed.
Material change
Shingle to clapboard, or wood to vinyl or fiber cement, reviewed.
Trim redesign
New corner boards, friezes or casings that change proportions.
Inside the Walls
Harrison’s housing ranges from mid-century capes and colonials near downtown and in West Harrison to large homes in Purchase. Older houses here have often been re-sided at least once, and the problems we find are consistent: missing or torn barrier, no flashing at doors and deck ledgers, and rot at the bottom course where splash-back hits the wall.
Every Harrison siding job includes tear-off, sheathing repair, a lapped water-resistive barrier, flashing at openings and roof-to-wall joints, and new siding and trim. Crews are licensed and insured and are supervised by a Guardian project manager. Guardian is Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24, in business since 1980, and our family team of five brothers, working alongside their father. The photos here show a real Guardian siding project; more are in our project gallery.
Harrison Siding FAQs
Does new siding in Harrison need ARB approval?
Harrison’s Architectural Review Board reviews the exterior design of residential and commercial buildings being altered, and the Building Department says most residential construction requires its approval. A change of siding material or color is exactly what the Board looks at.
What do I bring to the ARB?
For referred applications, two extra 11 by 17 drawing sets go in with the permit application, and photographs of your house and at least two adjacent or nearest houses are presented at the meeting. You or a representative must attend.
How long will the ARB take?
The Board meets the second Tuesday of each month, and submissions are due the Monday of the week before. Under the Town code, the Building Inspector issues the permit if the Board hasn’t disapproved a referred application within 30 days and everything else conforms.
Can the ARB say no?
Yes, but a disapproval takes the vote of at least four members, and it can be appealed to the Board of Appeals. In practice, well-prepared applications with materials that fit the street usually move through.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
