The Village of Mamaroneck publishes a specific checklist for its Board of Architectural Review, and it’s strict about format. Photos must be PDFs, each item is a separate file, and the plan has to show existing and proposed elevations with all revision dates. Village or Town: Check Before You Pick a Color
Mamaroneck is split between the Village and the unincorporated Town, which also contains the Village of Larchmont. In the unincorporated Town, house siding usually goes through the Building Department alone. In the Village, a referral to the BAR adds a meeting to the schedule, so the order of decisions matters: confirm the jurisdiction, then pick the material.
Either way, the work behind the siding is the same: tear-off, sheathing repairs, a lapped barrier and flashing at openings, decks and roof lines. Is it different in the unincorporated Town?
Yes. The Town of Mamaroneck’s Building Department is at 740 West Boston Post Road, and the Town’s Board of Architectural Review covers structures other than one- or two-family houses, so siding on a house there usually goes straight through the Building Department.
When does the Village BAR meet?
The first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Village courtroom at 169 Mount Pleasant Avenue.
