2. Rough electrical

Filed with the Town and inspected by one of its approved agencies.

3. Framing & insulation

Framing checked, then insulation, before any sheetrock goes up.

4. Final

Cabinets in, alarms working, final inspection and certificate.

Why the Order Matters in a Kitchen

Eastchester’s Building Department publishes its inspection schedule, and it shapes a kitchen job more than people expect. The walls stay open until plumbing, electrical, framing and insulation have each been signed off, so nothing gets covered that an inspector still needs to see. Each inspection needs at least 24 hours’ notice. We book them as the work reaches each stage, so the crew isn’t standing around waiting.

The plumbing side has its own paperwork. The Town’s schedule says the plumbing permit is filed by a Westchester County licensed plumber with a schematic drawing, and gas piping is pressure-tested at not less than 3 psi before it’s covered. Electrical work goes through one of the Town’s three approved inspection agencies, filed separately. For interior renovations the Town also requires working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, which we plan into the job from the start.

Town of Eastchester Kitchens

The Town Building Department is at 40 Mill Road and is open weekdays from 8:30 to 4:30. It covers the unincorporated Town; the Villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe, inside the Town’s borders, run their own departments. That’s why our first question on an Eastchester call is the street address.

In plenty of houses the kitchen layout works and the room is simply tired. A good result often means new cabinets, counters and lighting on the same footprint. The photo shows a Guardian kitchen with flat-panel gray cabinets and wide-plank oak floors.

Eastchester Kitchen Remodeling FAQs

Which building department handles my kitchen?

If your house is in the unincorporated Town of Eastchester, it’s the Town Building Department at 40 Mill Road. The Villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe sit inside the Town but have their own building departments, so we check your address first.

What inspections should I expect?

The Town’s inspection schedule lists them in order: rough plumbing, rough electrical, framing, insulation before the walls are closed, and a final. Inspections are booked with at least 24 hours’ notice.

We're adding a gas range. Is there anything special?

Yes. The Town’s rough plumbing inspection includes a gas pressure test, held at not less than 3 psi. A Westchester County licensed plumber does the gas work and files the plumbing permit with a schematic drawing.

Will I need new smoke detectors?

The Town’s inspection guidance says smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are required for interior renovations, so we include them in the electrical scope.

What warranty comes with the work?

A one-year written warranty on our workmanship. Product warranties for cabinets, counters and appliances come from the manufacturers.
