Shade, Moisture and Siding
Chappaqua’s wooded lots keep houses cool, but they keep walls damp too. North and east walls under heavy trees dry slowly after rain, mildew grows on painted wood and vinyl, and the bottom courses near planting beds take constant splash-back. Over years, that moisture finds the weak spots in old flashing and barrier.
We start with the walls that stay wettest. Sheathing is repaired, a lapped water-resistive barrier goes on, every opening and roof-to-wall joint is flashed, and we leave proper clearance between the siding and grade, decks and roof surfaces.
The New Castle ARB, Since 1956
New Castle’s Architectural Review Board was established on July 1, 1956, and its five members review most construction projects in town, the bulk of them alterations to existing homes. The Board’s mission statement warns against excessive uniformity, dissimilarity or poor design in exterior appearance, so a siding plan is judged against both your house and the street.
We prepare the package the Town asks for: photographs of every elevation, a satellite image, the fronts of the neighboring houses and a single-PDF digital copy, filed with the Building Division at least a week before the meeting.

Chappaqua Siding FAQs
Does siding in Chappaqua need Architectural Review Board approval?
New Castle says that, with few exceptions, construction projects must get ARB approval to obtain a building permit, and its stated aim is work that blends with the house and the neighborhood. A siding replacement that changes material or color is the kind of work the Board looks at.
What does the ARB submission include?
Photographs of all elevations of the house, a satellite image, the front elevations of the neighboring houses, and a CD or thumb drive with the whole application as one PDF, submitted at least one week before the meeting. An elevation drawing of one or more sides may be required.
Where are applications filed?
With the Building Division at New Castle Town Hall, 200 South Greeley Avenue, Chappaqua, which also serves Millwood.
Which building code applies?
New Castle announced it would begin observing the 2025 New York State building codes, including the 2025 energy code, on December 31, 2025. When walls are opened during a siding job, we follow the code in force for any work that triggers it.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
