The Village’s ARB has five volunteer members, including a licensed architect and a member recommended by the Historical Society of the Tarrytowns. They respond well to clear drawings, photographs of the house and its neighbors, and real material samples, and that’s what we bring.

Hillside Houses, Weather Off the River
Tarrytown’s streets climb steeply from the Hudson, and many houses have one tall elevation facing the river and the weather. Victorian and early-1900s houses near the waterfront and downtown have layered trim, porches and shingle accents that are easy to lose in a careless re-side.
We document the trim before anything comes off, so corner boards, frieze boards and shingle accent panels go back in the same proportions. Then we repair the sheathing, add a water-resistive barrier and flashing, and install the new siding with staging planned for the tall downhill walls. You can see one of our finished jobs in the project gallery.

Tarrytown Siding FAQs
Does new siding in Tarrytown need ARB approval?
It does when the new siding isn’t of the same kind and style as the existing building and is visible from a public street. The Village code lists siding among the exterior features that trigger referral to the Architectural Review Board. A like-for-like replacement generally goes straight to a building permit.
If the Board asks for changes, how long does that add?
Resubmissions have a shorter deadline than first filings: 10 days before the next monthly meeting instead of 18. In practice a revision usually costs one meeting cycle, so we try to settle colors, profiles and trim with you before the first filing.
What about historic district properties?
For designated landmarks and properties in a Village historic district, the ARB also decides certificates of appropriateness. It weighs the historical and architectural style, texture, material and color of the change and how it relates to nearby buildings.
Can I change my siding color?
Repainting in a new color is not one of the triggers for a straight re-side, but for an addition on a house built before 1929 any size goes to the Board, and for newer houses a new paint color on an addition can bring it in. We check your house’s age and scope before you pick colors.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
