Siding in Pound Ridge, NY
Westchester Siding Service Serving Pound Ridge
Siding repair and replacement for Pound Ridge’s country houses, antique homes and contemporary designs on wooded lots. Historic district questions answered early, and one Guardian project manager from the first walk-through to the final inspection.

Big Lots, Deep Shade, Long Walls
Pound Ridge homes tend to sit far back on wooded, rocky lots, often with long walls in permanent shade. The siding problems follow from that: moss and mildew on north walls, rot along the bottom courses where leaves pile up, and woodpecker damage on cedar. Many homes mix materials, with stone, wood and board-and-batten on a single elevation.
The photo shows a custom home we built with stone veneer and black board-and-batten siding. It’s the kind of mixed exterior we’re comfortable with. Where stone meets siding, flashing and clearances decide how long the wall lasts.
Landmarks and Historic Districts
Pound Ridge protects its historic homes, stone walls and cemeteries under Chapter 17 of the Town Code. For a designated landmark or a house in a historic district, the Landmarks and Historic District Commission reviews alterations to exterior architectural features, and the Code lists siding, trim, roof material and the kind and texture of materials among them.
| Change | Reviewed by the Commission? |
|---|---|
| New exterior paint color | No, color is excluded |
| Same material, same profile, repaired | Ask first, since it often counts as restoring the prior condition |
| New material or texture, such as cedar to vinyl | Yes |
If your house isn’t designated, the job is a regular building permit. We check designation first.

Pound Ridge Siding FAQs
Does the Pound Ridge historic district law cover siding?
Yes, for designated landmarks and houses in a historic district. Chapter 17 of the Town Code defines exterior architectural features to include the kind and texture of building materials and siding, trim and roof material. Changes to those features come before the Landmarks and Historic District Commission.
Is paint color reviewed?
No. Chapter 17 specifically excludes the color of exterior paint from what counts as an exterior architectural feature. Material, texture and style are what the Commission looks at.
Where do permits come from?
The Building Department at the Town House, 179 Westchester Avenue, 914-764-5511. The Town also has an online Building Permit Viewer, which is useful for checking a house’s permit history before we plan.
Our house is near a wetland. Does that matter for siding?
Usually not for siding alone, but it can for staging. The Water Control Commission regulates activity within 150 feet of a wetland. On larger jobs we keep equipment and dumpsters out of buffer areas, and we ask if anything else is in the plan.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
