Planning Around North Castle
Armonk is the main hamlet of the Town of North Castle, and kitchen permits come from the Town Building Department at 17 Bedford Road, in the Town Hall Annex. The Town’s customer guide is clear about the order of things: if your project needs another board, such as architectural review or wetlands, that approval comes before the building permit. Plans are checked against the State building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and energy codes.
Inspections are requested the day before, so we book them as each stage closes up: rough plumbing and wiring before the walls are closed, then the final once the kitchen is done.
Kitchens in Wooded Armonk Lots
Away from Main Street, many Armonk houses sit on large wooded lots with a private well and a septic system. That changes a few things in a kitchen. Water treatment equipment may need space nearby, garbage disposals are a conversation to have if you’re on septic, and a big new range hood needs a clean path outside.
Many homes here are colonials and contemporaries with kitchens that open to a family room, so the work is often about the island, the lighting and the flow between rooms. The kitchen in the photo is a Guardian remodel.

Armonk Kitchen Remodeling FAQs
How long does North Castle take to review a kitchen permit?
The Town’s customer guide to the building permit process sets a goal of 2 to 4 weeks for the first review and 2 to 3 weeks for re-reviews. Complete drawings are the best way to avoid a second round, so we get them right before filing.
Does the County Health Department get involved?
Sometimes. North Castle’s application asks whether Westchester County Department of Health approval is needed for a septic system or well. A kitchen in the same footprint usually doesn’t trigger it, but adding bedrooms or changing the system can.
Do I need a design professional for drawings?
North Castle needs an affidavit of construction cost from the architect or engineer when structural work costs $20,000 or more, unless it’s designed prescriptively under the State code. If we’re removing a wall or adding a beam, plan on a design professional.
Who can do the plumbing and electrical?
North Castle requires every electrician and plumber working in the Town to be licensed by Westchester County, and contractors need a County home improvement license. Our trades are County-licensed and we hold Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24.
What warranty do I get?
One year on our workmanship, in writing. Product warranties on cabinets and appliances come from the manufacturers.
