The Water Side of a Mount Kisco Bathroom
Mount Kisco runs its own water and sewer systems, and its Building Department’s instructions spell out how they connect to a permit. Three items matter for bathrooms:
| Item | When it comes up |
|---|---|
| Sewage permit | Village/Town Engineering where the Village sewer is used, or County Health for a septic system, when the work involves the line |
| Water permit | A Village/Town water permit for a connection to the municipal system; County Health approval for an on-site well |
| Backflow prevention | Required for multifamily residences, irrigation, fire sprinklers and pools; processed through Engineering |
A typical bathroom remodel in a single-family house uses the plumbing permit and the building permit. A new bath in a two-family house, or one tied into a new line, can bring in the others. We sort that out before your estimate.

Bathrooms in a Compact Village
Mount Kisco has a mix of older houses near Main Street, two-family homes, condos and newer houses on the hills. In older houses we often find a single small bath that needs better ventilation and a shower that drains properly. In condos, the job stays in its footprint and follows the building’s rules for noise, deliveries and water shut-offs.
The bathroom in the photo is a Guardian remodel with a black tile wall, fluted wood-look shower tile and an oak vanity.

Mount Kisco Bathroom Remodeling FAQs
Sewer or septic: does it matter for a bathroom in Mount Kisco?
For the paperwork, yes. The Building Department’s instructions call for a sewage permit from the Village/Town Engineering Department where the Village sewer is used, or a County Health Department permit for a separate sewage system, when the work involves them. Most homes near the village center are on the sewer.
We have a two-family house. Is there anything extra?
Possibly a backflow prevention permit. Mount Kisco requires one for multifamily residences, among others, processed through the Engineering Office. We check with the Village Engineer when it applies.
Who files the plumbing permit?
A Westchester County-licensed plumber, on the Building Department’s plumbing permit application. The Village requires all plumbers and electricians to hold County licenses.
Where is the Building Department?
On the first floor of Village Hall, 104 Main Street; the phone is 914-864-0019. Mount Kisco is a combined Village/Town with one building office.
What warranty comes with the bathroom?
One year, in writing, on our labor and installation. Fixture and finish warranties are the manufacturers’, and we pass the paperwork to you.
