Town, Bronxville or Tuckahoe?
The Town of Eastchester is one of the places where the right building office isn’t obvious. The Town Building Department, at 40 Mill Road (914-771-3317, weekdays 8:30 to 4:30), covers the unincorporated Town. The Villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe sit inside the Town’s borders, and each has its own building department and rules. We confirm which one applies to your address before any drawings are made.
What Has to Be Seen Before the Tile Goes On
In a bathroom, almost everything important ends up behind tile. The Town’s published inspection schedule makes sure it’s checked first. Rough plumbing is inspected open, with the plumbing permit filed by a Westchester County licensed plumber and a schematic drawing. Rough electrical goes through one of the Town’s approved inspection agencies. Framing is checked next, then insulation, and only then can sheetrock or tile backer go up.
Each inspection needs at least 24 hours’ notice. Final plumbing is inspected along with the final building inspection, and the Town also requires smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for interior renovations. The bathroom in the photo is a Guardian remodel finished in large-format marble-look porcelain tile.

Eastchester Bathroom Remodeling FAQs
Is my bathroom reviewed by the Town or a Village?
It depends on your address. The Town of Eastchester Building Department at 40 Mill Road covers the unincorporated Town. The Villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe are inside the Town but have their own building departments.
Who files the plumbing permit?
A Westchester County licensed plumber. The Town’s inspection guidance says the plumbing permit is filed with a schematic drawing of the work.
When can the walls be closed?
After the rough plumbing, rough electrical and framing inspections pass and the insulation inspection is done. The Town’s schedule puts insulation inspection before sheetrock, so tile backer isn’t installed until then.
Is there a final plumbing inspection?
Yes. The Town inspects final plumbing together with the final building inspection, and a certificate is issued for the alteration once everything passes.
What warranty do you offer?
A one-year written warranty on our workmanship. Fixture, vanity and glass makers’ warranties are passed on to you.
