Apartment Baths Are Their Own Job
Hartsdale is a hamlet of the unincorporated Town of Greenburgh, and apartment buildings have been part of it since the decades between 1880 and 1940, when farms and estates were subdivided for houses and apartments. A bath in one of those buildings shares risers, walls and a ceiling with your neighbors.
- Board first. The alteration agreement sets work hours, elevator use and the insurance the building wants to see.
- Risers. Shut-offs are often building-wide, so plumbing tie-ins are booked with the super.
- Waterproofing. The unit below is your neighbor’s ceiling, so the shower pan and membrane are tested before tile.
- Town filing. The Greenburgh package goes in with the association letter, a notarized affidavit and insurance naming the Town.
A Plumbing Inspector Who Knows the Buildings
Greenburgh’s Building Department lists a dedicated plumbing inspector, and rough and final plumbing inspections are part of a bath remodel. Our licensed plumbing subcontractor files the plumbing side, and a Guardian project manager schedules the inspector around the building’s rules.
The bath in the photo is a Guardian remodel with a white vanity, a backlit mirror and marble-look wall tile, the kind of finish that fits a compact apartment bath.

Hartsdale Bathroom Remodeling FAQs
Can you remodel a bathroom in a Hartsdale co-op?
Yes. Many Hartsdale apartments are co-ops with their own alteration rules, insurance requirements and work hours. Greenburgh’s application package includes an association approval letter, so we get the board’s sign-off first and then file with the Town.
Who inspects the plumbing?
The Town of Greenburgh Building Department has its own plumbing inspector. The direct line listed by the Town is 914-989-1564, and the main office is 914-989-1560.
Which plumbing code applies?
Greenburgh enforces the 2025 Plumbing Code of New York State, along with the 2025 Residential and Energy codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code.
Can I drop off the application myself?
The Town accepts Building Department applications in person or by mail at 177 Hillside Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding Town holidays. We usually handle it for you.
What warranty do I get?
One year on Guardian’s workmanship, in writing. Fixture and glass warranties come from the manufacturers and are passed to you.
