Houses From the Commuter Boom
Hartsdale changed fast once the railroad made it a commuter stop. Between 1880 and 1940, farmland and estates were split into house lots and apartment sites at a furious pace, even as bankers such as Felix Warburg, who bought land for his Woodlands estate in 1904, built country places nearby. Much of the housing stock comes from those decades.
For a kitchen, that usually means a compact original room, plaster or early drywall, and plumbing that has been patched more than once. We open the walls only after the plan is approved, and we price the likely surprises in the estimate instead of after demolition.

What Goes Into the Greenburgh Application
The Town asks for a full package, not just a form. We prepare an original and two copies with inked signatures, a notarized affidavit of ownership, insurance certificates naming the Town of Greenburgh, a copy of our Westchester County license (Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24) and, where there’s a homeowners or co-op association, its approval letter.
Plan review checks the layout against the 2025 New York State codes the Town enforces. The kitchen pictured is a Guardian remodel with white raised-panel cabinets, crown molding and a dark island.

Hartsdale Kitchen Remodeling FAQs
Which office handles a Hartsdale kitchen permit?
Hartsdale is a hamlet in the unincorporated Town of Greenburgh, so the Town’s Building Department at 177 Hillside Avenue reviews it (914-989-1560). It accepts applications in person or by mail, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Does a kitchen remodel need a permit in Greenburgh?
The Town’s FAQ says a permit is required for any construction, repair, improvement, modification or demolition. A kitchen remodel that touches walls, plumbing or wiring falls under that.
Which code applies to the design?
Greenburgh lists the 2025 Residential Code, Plumbing Code, Mechanical Code and Energy Conservation Code of New York State, plus the 2023 National Electrical Code. We draw the plans to those editions.
I live in a Hartsdale co-op. What's different?
The building’s board usually has its own alteration rules, and Greenburgh’s application package includes an HOA approval letter where one applies. We get the board’s sign-off before the Town filing.
What warranty do you give?
One year on Guardian’s workmanship, in writing, plus the manufacturers’ warranties on cabinets, counters and appliances.
