How Harrison Sorts a Roofing Application
Harrison’s Building Department uses lettered permit categories. Some go to the Architectural Review Board and some don’t, and the category decides what you submit: a survey, drawing sets, and for ARB cases two extra 11 by 17 sets plus photographs of the house and at least two neighbors. Plans that require drawings must be signed and sealed by a New York licensed design professional.
For a straightforward replacement, the paperwork is usually light. For a new dormer, a raised roof or a different material on a prominent elevation, expect the ARB. We find out which applies before you sign, so the schedule in your estimate is real.

Three Parts of Harrison, Three Kinds of Roof
Every Harrison roof we replace gets a tear-off to the deck, sheathing repair, ice barrier at the eaves and in valleys, new flashing and balanced ventilation.
Harrison Roofing FAQs
Is Harrison a town or a village?
Both. Harrison is a coterminous town and village with one Building Department, at the Alfred F. Sulla, Jr. Municipal Building, 1 Heineman Place. That covers downtown Harrison, West Harrison and Purchase.
Will my roof need Architectural Review Board approval?
The Building Department sorts applications into categories, and only some are referred to the ARB, which reviews the exterior design of buildings being altered. Most residential construction goes to the Board, so if the roof changes the look of the house, plan on it. The ARB meets the second Tuesday of each month.
How long does ARB review take?
Submissions are due the Monday of the week before the meeting, and the applicant or a representative must attend. Under the Town code, if the Board doesn’t disapprove a referred application within 30 days, the Building Inspector issues the permit if everything else conforms.
Do you handle roofs on large houses in Purchase?
Yes. Bigger, more complex roofs mean more staging, more flashing detail and often several roof materials. We plan delivery, dumpster placement and protection of landscaping before work begins.
What warranty do I get?
Ten years on our roofing workmanship and one year on the rest, in writing. Product warranties come from the manufacturer.
