General Contractor in Pound Ridge, NY

Westchester General Contracting Service Serving Pound Ridge

Major renovations, additions and whole-house projects on Pound Ridge’s wooded country properties. Guardian coordinates the Building Department, Water Control Commission and County Health, and supervises every trade on site.

Contracting on Country Properties

Pound Ridge is rural in a way few Westchester towns still are. Lots of two and three acres, long gravel driveways, stone walls, ledge and wetlands, and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation along the northern edge. The homes range from 18th- and 19th-century farmhouses near the hamlet to mid-century contemporaries set into the woods and large newer houses on the back roads. Almost all of them have a private well and a septic system.

That setting changes what a general contractor does. The carpentry and finishes matter, but so does getting a concrete truck up a steep driveway in March, keeping equipment off a leach field and scheduling inspections across a big, spread-out town. We plan those things into the job and the price.

Pound Ridge General Contractor FAQs

Who issues building permits in Pound Ridge?

The Town of Pound Ridge Building Department at Town House, 179 Westchester Avenue, (914) 764-5511. Trade work such as plumbing, electrical and HVAC uses the Town’s specialty permit applications in addition to the building permit.

We're adding a bedroom. Does the septic system need approval?

If a renovation adds bedrooms or otherwise increases wastewater flow, the Westchester County Department of Health has to issue a no-objection for the existing septic system, or approve plans for a new or upgraded one, before the work goes ahead. Most Pound Ridge homes rely on their own septic and well, so we check this first.

Can a renovation in Pound Ridge need the Planning Board?

Yes. The Planning Board reviews site plans when building coverage passes the limit for the district, for example 4,500 square feet in R-3A or 2,600 in R-1A, when total lot coverage passes its limit, or when work involves slopes over 25 percent. Large additions sometimes cross those lines.

What about work near a wetland?

Activity within 150 feet of a wetland or watercourse goes to the Town’s Water Control Commission. Decks, additions, drainage and even a new well location can be affected, so we map the flags before design.
