Siding Tudors, Colonials and Splits
Hartsdale’s single-family neighborhoods are a mix. Tudors combine stucco, stone and siding on the same wall, so the joints between materials matter as much as the siding itself. Colonials are mostly siding, often aluminum or vinyl over original clapboard. Split-levels and capes from the 1950s and 1960s usually have the most tired siding and the least house wrap.
We plan each wall separately. On Tudors we detail where siding meets stucco and stone so water can’t get behind either; on colonials and splits we strip the old layers, repair the sheathing, and wrap and flash the wall before the new siding goes up. Our own before-and-after photos of a full re-side are on the Guardian siding page.
The Greenburgh Application, Done Right
Greenburgh returns incomplete applications, so we put the package together before we schedule the work:
- Application. One original and two copies, signed in ink by the owner and by us as contractor.
- Affidavit of ownership. Signed and notarized.
- Insurance. Certificates naming the Town of Greenburgh, plus State workers’ compensation and disability forms.
- License. A copy of our Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24.
- HOA letter. If the home is in a homeowners’ association.

Hartsdale Siding FAQs
Do I need a permit for siding in Hartsdale?
Yes. The Town of Greenburgh requires a building permit for construction, repair and improvement work, and that includes siding. A direct residential siding replacement with no change in material type has a simpler application than a project that changes materials or the structure.
Where is the permit filed?
Hartsdale is part of unincorporated Greenburgh, so the Town of Greenburgh Building Department at 177 Hillside Avenue handles it. Applications are accepted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and need original inked signatures and a notarized affidavit of ownership.
Do we need our HOA's approval?
If your home is in a homeowners’ association, Greenburgh asks for a letter from the association stating it has reviewed and approved the plans. For co-op and condo buildings, the board controls the exterior.
Do we need a steep slope or wetland clearance?
Usually not for siding alone. Greenburgh requires those clearances for additions and exterior alterations that involve excavation. If your siding job is part of a bigger project, we check.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
