In the Special Character Overlay District, even a change of exterior finish or color needs the Architectural Review Board’s approval before a permit. For a siding job, that means the material, profile and color you choose are part of the approval, not an afterthought.

Do I need Architectural Review Board approval to re-side in Pleasantville?
If the house is in the Village’s Special Character Overlay District, yes. The petition form says any exterior change to a residential house there, including all exterior finishes, needs ARB approval before a building permit. Outside that district, a siding job goes straight to the Building Department.
What goes in an ARB petition for siding?
Photos of the entire house and close-ups of each detail being changed (siding, fascia, frieze, rake and trim), plus color samples. It must be in at least 10 days before the meeting. We prepare it with you and can attend.
Where is the Building Department?
Village Hall, 80 Wheeler Avenue, 914-769-1926. The office checklist asks for the contractor’s license, workers’ compensation and liability insurance, which we supply.
Can new siding go over the old?
Sometimes, but we rarely recommend it. Covering old siding hides rot and makes it impossible to flash openings properly. We prefer to strip, inspect and repair.
