Siding in North Salem, NY
Westchester Siding Service Serving North Salem
Siding repair and replacement for farmhouses, barns-turned-homes and country houses across North Salem, Purdys, Croton Falls and Salem Center. The Building Inspector consulted first, and one Guardian project manager throughout.
Country Houses, Old Walls
North Salem is horse country, with stone walls, long driveways and houses that have been added onto for generations. When we open a wall here, we may find wide-plank sheathing, old clapboard under newer siding, or framing that changes from one addition to the next.
Those surprises are why we price North Salem siding only after a careful walk-through. We probe the sills and corners, look under the bottom courses, and photograph every elevation. You get a written estimate that says what’s likely to need repair, not one written to look low.
How We Handle the Town Requirements
1. Scope
We describe the work to the Building Inspector, who also serves as the Town Fire Inspector.
2. License check
The Town checks for a current Westchester contractor license before any permit.
3. Permit
Filed on the Town form that fits the job, if it’s needed.
4. Sign-off
Inspections, then a certificate of compliance where it applies.

Craft on a Stone-and-Siding Exterior
The photo shows our crew on a custom home with a stone chimney and black board-and-batten siding. It’s typical of the mixed exteriors we see in northern Westchester. Where siding meets stone, a chimney or a roof, it needs proper flashing and clearances, or water gets behind the wall.
Guardian is our family team of five brothers, working alongside their father, in the trades since 1980. Our siding is installed by licensed, insured subcontractors supervised by a Guardian project manager.

North Salem Siding FAQs
Does North Salem require a permit for siding?
It depends on the scope. The Town’s Building Department list of permit work includes structural alterations inside and out, additions and new roofs, and the Town Code requires a permit for alterations that must meet the State codes. Like-for-like repairs are often exempt. Re-siding that involves sheathing, framing or a new wall assembly usually needs a permit, and we confirm it with the Building Inspector.
Will the Town check the contractor's license?
Yes. The Building Department says it checks that each contractor has a current Westchester license before it issues a permit. Ours is Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24.
What happens if work starts without a needed permit?
The Town charges a penalty of triple the permit fee, up to $1,500. Legalizing completed work costs a $1,500 penalty plus the permit and certificate of compliance fees. Filing first is cheaper and faster.
Can you work around horses, barns and long driveways?
Yes. Many North Salem properties are farms or estates. We plan deliveries, dumpster placement and noisy work so they don’t disturb animals, and we keep debris contained.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
