Siding in Lake Carmel, NY
Westchester & Putnam Siding Service Serving Lake Carmel
Siding for Lake Carmel’s converted bungalows and lakefront homes in the Town of Kent. We seal the joints between old cottages and their additions, then re-side the whole house.
Bungalows That Grew
Lake Carmel is a man-made lake on the Middle Branch of the Croton River. In 1928 the Smadbeck brothers bought the farms here and sold small summer lots through a newspaper promotion. Bungalows went up around the shoreline, and over the decades most of them were expanded and winterized, making this one of the most densely settled parts of Kent.
When we re-side a Lake Carmel house, the joints are what we look at most: where a 1930s cottage wall meets a 1970s addition, where an enclosed porch was framed in, or where a second floor sits on the original walls. The old siding often hides open seams and missing flashing at those spots. We open them, repair them and make them weathertight before any new siding goes on. The photo shows one of our own finished siding jobs.

Choosing a Siding for a Lake House
| Material | Why people choose it here |
|---|---|
| Vinyl clapboard or Dutch lap | No painting; handles lake humidity; most affordable |
| Cedar shingles | Classic cottage look; needs finishing and upkeep |
| Board-and-batten | Good on gables, additions and garages; modern look |
Each choice is priced separately in your written estimate. Guardian is our family team of five brothers, working alongside their father, serving Westchester & Putnam since 1980 under Putnam County HIC #52594. Licensed, insured subcontractors install the siding, and a Guardian project manager supervises them. See our main siding page and read our Google Reviews.
Lake Carmel Siding FAQs
Who handles permits in Lake Carmel?
Lake Carmel is a hamlet in the Town of Kent, so the Town of Kent Building Department handles permits. It’s at the Town Center, 25 Sybil’s Crossing.
My house is right on the lake. Is there an extra step?
Possibly. Kent sends projects within 100 feet of a wetland to the Planning Board before a building permit is issued. For lakefront houses, we check whether that applies before we give you a schedule.
Our cottage was built in stages. Can the new siding hide that?
The siding can make the house look like one building, but first we fix the joints between the old cottage and its additions, because that’s usually where water gets in.
Should the siding come off before or after we fix the rot?
At the same time. Once the old siding is off, we replace the soft sheathing and trim, then the new water barrier and siding go on.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
