When the renovation changes how rooms are arranged or expands living space, Putnam County Health generally must sign off before the Town building permit. Their environmental office is at 1 Geneva Road in Brewster, and we assemble that package with the drawings.

How do we get a building permit in Putnam Valley?

Bring a complete application to Building and Zoning at 265 Oscawana Lake Road (845-526-2377). Drop-off hours for applications are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday; the department turns away packages that are missing pieces.

What if bedrooms move or increase?

Use the Town’s Request for Bedroom Count form. On septic properties, bedroom count drives system size, so a Health Department septic review can come before the Town permit.

Which edition of the State code should the drawings cite?

Plans prepared by a design professional from January 1, 2026 forward are expected to meet the 2025 New York State code books.
