Basement Finishing in Chappaqua, NY
Westchester Basement Finishing Service Serving Chappaqua
Playrooms, teen hangouts, media rooms and home offices for Chappaqua and Millwood basements, designed around ductwork, old foundations and New Castle’s review process.

A Basement That Grows With the Family
Chappaqua families often come to us when the first floor is overflowing with toys, homework and screens. A finished basement can take that pressure off. It can be a playroom now and a teen hangout later, with a homework area, a TV wall and a bathroom so nobody has to run upstairs.
We design for that change. That means durable luxury vinyl plank floors, plenty of outlets and data, lighting on dimmers, built-in storage that can switch from toy bins to a media cabinet, and sound control in the ceiling.
Chappaqua's Older Basements
Much of Chappaqua’s housing goes back to the 1920s through the 1950s: colonials and Tudors near the village center and along the hills around it, plus mid-century ranches toward Millwood. Older basements here can have fieldstone or block walls, ducts and pipes hanging low, and an oil tank or old boiler taking up the best corner.
Before design, we map what has to stay accessible, such as the panel, shutoffs and cleanouts. We also look at what can move, like ducts or an oil tank being replaced with a heat pump or gas system. Older homes get lead-safe practices and asbestos testing of old pipe insulation and floor tile before anything is disturbed.

Chappaqua Basement FAQs
Who handles basement permits in Chappaqua?
Chappaqua is a hamlet in the Town of New Castle, so the New Castle Building Division at Town Hall, 200 South Greeley Avenue, issues the permit. We prepare the drawings and application.
Will a basement project go to the Architectural Review Board?
New Castle sends most construction projects with exterior changes to its Architectural Review Board. A purely interior basement may not need it, but a new egress window well, an areaway or an exterior door changes the outside of the house. We ask the Building Division early, so the schedule isn’t a surprise.
Our ceiling is low because of ductwork. Any options?
Often. We can reroute or consolidate ducts into soffits along the edges, move a main trunk line, or use a slimmer ceiling. In some older homes, the floor framing is simply low, and we design rooms around the beams.
Can we put a bathroom in the basement?
Yes. If the drain line exits above the basement floor, we use an ejector pit or an up-flush system. Where the home is on septic, we confirm capacity, especially if a bedroom is part of the plan.
How do you handle sound between the basement and the first floor?
Sound insulation between the joists, resilient channel under the drywall and solid-core doors make a real difference for a playroom or media room.
