General Contractor in Tarrytown, NY
Westchester General Contracting Service Serving Tarrytown
Renovations, kitchens, baths, additions and exterior work in the Village of Tarrytown, run by a single Guardian team from the first sketch to the final inspection.
Old Houses, Layered Rules
Tarrytown has a large stock of older homes on the hills above the Hudson, and the Village protects that character. A house built before 1929 sends any addition, however small, to the Architectural Review Board, and exterior materials that change the look from the street go there too.
None of this is a reason to avoid renovating. It is a reason to plan the order of approvals, drawings and trades before anything is demolished.
How We Sequence a Tarrytown Renovation
1. Walk-through
We look at the age of the house, its visibility from the street and what you want to change.
2. Approvals map
We list which items need only a permit and which need the ARB first.
3. Drawings and filing
Plans, the building application, then the plumbing and electrical permits.
4. Construction
Trades scheduled in order, with inspections at each stage.
5. Close-out
Final inspections and a punch-list walk-through with you.
Interiors That Work for Modern Life
Inside, older Tarrytown houses often have small kitchens, one full bath and tired plumbing. Opening walls, moving a bath or relocating a kitchen means coordinating carpentry, plumbing, electrical and tile, with permits for each piece.
The shower in this photo, with black and white marble-look tile and a hex floor, is one of our bathroom projects. Licensed, insured subcontractors handle plumbing and electrical under a Guardian project manager.

What We Coordinate

Tarrytown General Contractor FAQs
Which Tarrytown projects go to the Architectural Review Board?
Under Village Code Section 9-4, the ARB reviews things like roofing or siding that is not the same kind and style as what is there now and is visible from a public street, and additions of any size to buildings put up before 1929. The board meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.
Does a kitchen or bath remodel need a permit in the Village?
The Building Department says permits are required for almost all construction, and plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work, done by plumbers licensed by Westchester County. We file both.
What happens if work was done without a permit?
The Village charges a legalization fee that is double the normal permit fee, according to its building permit fee FAQ. If you are buying or selling, we can help you sort out what needs to be legalized.
Where is the Building Department?
At One Depot Plaza near the train station (914-631-3668).
