Two Booms Shaped Ardsley
Ardsley’s first boom came in the 1880s, when the Putnam Railroad and the New Croton Aqueduct were built and the village got electric lighting. It incorporated in 1896. The second came with the New York State Thruway in the late 1950s, which cost the village its train station and much of its old downtown. Today it has 1,721 homes (2020 census), many from the years between those two booms.
That history shows up inside the kitchens. We find early-1900s rooms with plaster, and mid-century kitchens that are small and closed off but easy to open up. The kitchen pictured is a Guardian remodel with flat-panel gray cabinets and oak floors.

How Guardian Runs an Ardsley Kitchen
We measure, design and write the scope, then prepare the drawings and file them with the Village with a copy of our Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24. A Guardian project manager stays with the job through every inspection. Plumbing, electrical and other specialty trades are done by licensed subcontractors under that manager’s supervision.

Ardsley Kitchen Remodeling FAQs
Does an interior kitchen remodel go to Ardsley's Board of Architectural Review?
The Village’s permit procedure sheet says every application except interior alterations must be approved by the BAR before a permit is issued. A kitchen kept inside the existing walls is usually interior work. A new exterior door or a bump-out is not. We confirm with the Building Department before we file.
What plans does Ardsley want?
The procedure sheet calls for three sets of plans, including floor plans and structural drawings with mechanical, electrical and plumbing details. If the building already has a fire sprinkler system, sprinkler plans are needed for alterations too.
Where is the Building Department?
At Village Hall, 507 Ashford Avenue. The direct line is 914-693-6961, and the office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Is Ardsley-on-Hudson the same place?
No. Ardsley-on-Hudson is part of the Village of Irvington, which reviews its own permits. We check which village your house is in.
What warranty do you give?
One year on Guardian’s workmanship, in writing. Manufacturer warranties on cabinets, counters and appliances are passed to you.
