If the project adds a window, changes the exterior or becomes part of an addition, it moves into a category that is referred to the ARB.

What does Harrison want with an interior alteration application?

A property survey and three sets of drawings where applicable, and Harrison requires plans to be signed and sealed by a New York licensed design professional. Licensed plumbers and electricians file for their own work. The Building Department is at 1 Heineman Place.

We live in Purchase. Does that change anything?

Purchase is part of Harrison, so the same Building Department handles the permit. Purchase homes are often larger, with more bathrooms and longer runs from the water heater, so we look at hot-water delivery and whether a recirculation loop makes sense.

Often. A shed dormer across the back of a cape can create room for a full bath. That changes the exterior, so it goes to the ARB, and it usually works best planned together with the dormer itself.
