Wooded Lots Are Hard on Siding
Armonk’s large, tree-covered lots keep houses shaded and private, and they keep some walls damp for most of the year. The north and back sides of many North Castle houses show it first: mildew on painted clapboard, cupped cedar shingles, soft trim at the corners and rot where the siding meets a deck or a roof.
We remove the old siding on the affected walls, open up and repair the sheathing underneath, install a water-resistive barrier lapped the right way, and flash every opening and joint. Then we install the new siding with the clearances the manufacturer requires above grade, decks and roofs. North Castle Paperwork in Plain English
The Building Department at 17 Bedford Road publishes a customer guide to its permit process. For a siding job, it comes down to a few steps, and we handle each one:
- Application. Filed online, with the owner’s authorization and our license and insurance certificates.
- Referral if needed. Projects that change the exterior design can go to the Architectural Review Board first.
- Review. The Town’s goal is two to four weeks for the first review.
- Inspections. Booked the day before by your project manager, who meets the inspector.

Armonk Siding FAQs
Do I need a permit for new siding in Armonk?
Yes, in most cases. Siding is one of the work types listed in the Town of North Castle’s online permitting, and the residential application asks for the contractor’s Westchester County home improvement license. We file it and track the review.
Will North Castle's Architectural Review Board see my project?
A like-for-like re-side usually goes straight through the Building Department. When a project changes the look of the house, for example a new material, a different profile or trim on the front, the Town can refer it to its five-member Architectural Review Board before the permit is issued.
How long until we can start?
North Castle’s stated goal is two to four weeks for the first review of an application. We order materials once the permit is in sight, so the house isn’t left half open waiting for paperwork.
Our house backs onto woods. Does that change the job?
Usually it means more moisture on the shaded sides and more damage at the bottom courses near grade. We check sheathing on those walls closely, keep siding clear of soil and mulch, and flash every deck ledger and roof-to-wall joint.
What warranty comes with siding?
One year on our workmanship, in writing, plus the siding manufacturer’s own product warranty.
