Kitchen Remodeling in Chappaqua, NY

Westchester Kitchen Remodeling Service Serving Chappaqua

Open-plan kitchens, custom cabinetry and family-friendly islands for Chappaqua and Millwood homes, permitted through the Town of New Castle. One Guardian project manager from the first sketch to the final inspection.

How Chappaqua Families Use Their Kitchens

In Chappaqua the kitchen is often where homework, cooking and entertaining all happen at once, and many houses were not built for that. A lot of the town’s homes are colonials, split-levels and contemporaries from the 1950s through the 1980s, plus older houses near the hamlet center. Their original kitchens tend to be closed off from the family room, short on counter space, and lit by a single ceiling fixture.

Most of the kitchens we plan here include a few of the same goals: open the kitchen to the family room, add an island with seating, put a working mudroom and drop zone at the garage entry, and fit a pantry where the old desk nook used to be.

Designing Around the House You Have

Center-hall colonials. Taking down the wall between the kitchen and family room or breakfast area usually gives the biggest change. The wall is often load-bearing, so we design a beam and plan around ductwork from the floor above.Split-levels. The kitchen often sits a half level from the living room. Opening a railing wall or widening the doorway can connect the two without moving the kitchen.Contemporaries. High ceilings and lots of glass call for careful planning of cabinet heights, lighting and hood ducting.

Whatever the style, we lay out the cooking, cleanup and prep zones so two people can work at once, and we put outlets, lighting and storage where they will actually be used.

The New Castle Permit Path

1. Scope review

We confirm whether the plan is interior-only or changes the exterior, which decides whether zoning or ARB review is needed.

2. Stamped drawings

Three stamped and sealed sets (two 24×36, one 11×17) where the Town requires them, plus the permit application.

3. Trade permits

Separate electrical, plumbing and HVAC permits, filed for your project by the licensed subcontractors we supervise.

4. Inspections

Rough and final inspections booked by your project manager, with the work built to the current NYS codes.

Chappaqua Kitchen Remodeling Questions

Who issues kitchen remodeling permits in Chappaqua?

Chappaqua is a hamlet in the Town of New Castle, so the New Castle Building Division at Town Hall, 200 South Greeley Avenue, handles it. The Town requires a building permit for alterations, and electrical, plumbing and HVAC work each need a separate permit.

What drawings does New Castle want?

For a building permit, New Castle asks for three sets of stamped and sealed drawings: two full-size 24 by 36 inch sets and one 11 by 17 inch set. We coordinate the architect or engineer when your kitchen plan needs one, and we prepare the rest of the application.

We want to add a window or bump out the kitchen. Does that change anything?

Yes. Exterior changes can bring in zoning limits on floor area and lot coverage, and some projects go to the Town’s Architectural Review Board. We check that early so the kitchen design does not have to be redrawn later.

Can we open our kitchen to the family room?

In most center-hall colonials and splits, yes. The wall is often load-bearing, so we plan a beam sized by an engineer and reroute any ductwork, plumbing vents or wiring inside it.

Does New Castle use the newest building codes?

New Castle began enforcing the 2025 New York State codes, including the energy code, on December 31, 2025. Your project is designed and inspected to the codes in effect when you apply.

Which building code applies to a new Chappaqua kitchen?

The Town of New Castle Building Division notes that the 2025 New York State codes took effect on December 31, 2025, so new kitchen work is designed to them. Permits are filed at Town Hall, 200 South Greeley Avenue. Remodeling a bath as well? See bathroom remodeling in Chappaqua.
