Check the License First
Patterson’s Building Department tells homeowners that contractors working in town must hold a Putnam County license, and that the license can be checked with the Putnam County Department of Consumer Affairs. It’s good advice, especially for siding, where unlicensed crews often show up after storms. Our license is Putnam County HIC #52594, and we include it with every permit application along with our insurance certificates.

Old Walls, Old Stone, Old Roads
Patterson is one of Putnam’s oldest places. Settlers from Connecticut began arriving around 1720 on the Oblong, and the town was spelled “Paterson” until the mid-1800s, reportedly because mail kept going to Paterson, New Jersey. The Building Department still reminds residents that stone walls are an important part of Patterson’s history and should be left undisturbed.
We take that seriously. Dumpsters and material deliveries are placed so they don’t run over old walls or the stones along the driveway. Ladders and staging are set on boards, not against stonework, and debris is kept out of the hedgerows.

We install vinyl clapboard and Dutch lap, cedar clapboard and shingles, and board-and-batten. Each is priced separately so you can compare them. Licensed, insured subcontractors install the siding, and a Guardian project manager checks the barrier and flashing before any siding goes over them.

Does a siding job in Patterson need a permit?

Can a re-siding job change my assessment?
