Bathroom Remodeling in Lake Carmel, NY
Tub-to-shower conversions, new vanities and complete bathroom remodels for Lake Carmel homes in the Town of Kent.
Why Lake Carmel Bathrooms Need Updating
Lake Carmel grew from a 1920s summer colony around a 1.6-mile man-made lake. The 2020 census counted 8,069 residents and about 3,258 homes in the hamlet. Many began as seasonal cottages and were winterized over the years, often with a bathroom squeezed in wherever it would fit.
Typical problems we see: a tub crammed under a sloped ceiling, no exhaust fan, soft floors around the toilet, and pipes in a cold outside wall.

A Typical Lake Carmel Bathroom Job
A tub-to-shower conversion usually starts with removing the old tub and surround down to the studs. Next we check the floor and the framing, then move the drain if needed and set a new shower pan. After the inspection we add waterproofing, tile, a glass door and new fixtures. Larger remodels add a new vanity, flooring, lighting and a vented fan.
We keep the house livable while we work. If it is your only bathroom, we will talk through the schedule before we begin.
Before the tile goes up, we confirm the shower valve height, niche location and grab-bar blocking with you, because those are hard to change once the walls are finished.
Lake Carmel Bathroom FAQs
Who approves bathroom permits in Lake Carmel?
The Town of Kent Building Department (845-225-3900), since Lake Carmel is a hamlet within Kent.
Can I do the electrical myself to save money?
Not in Kent. The town does not let homeowners do their own electrical, HVAC or gas work. Electrical permits are handled through the Putnam County Department of Consumer Affairs (845-808-1617), and we use licensed electricians.
When are stamped plans required?
Kent asks for plans stamped by an architect or engineer when the project cost is over $20,000. Many bathroom remodels come in under that, but a larger primary-bath project may not.
How long does a permit take?
Kent generally reviews applications in 14 to 21 days. We order materials during that window so work can start once the permit is issued.
Do you put in walk-in showers?
Yes. Converting a tub to a walk-in shower is one of our most common bathroom jobs.
