Whole-Home Remodeling in New Rochelle, NY

Westchester Whole-Home Remodeling Service Serving New Rochelle

Full-house renovations for New Rochelle’s older colonials, Tudors and two-family homes, filed online with the City and built by one accountable team.

Old Houses, Updated All at Once

New Rochelle has a long history; Thomas Paine’s cottage still stands on North Avenue, and many neighborhoods were built up in the early 1900s. A lot of those houses have had piecemeal updates over the decades: a kitchen from one era, baths from another, wiring from several. A whole-home remodel lets us fix that in one plan.

Walls open once, so electrical and plumbing can be brought up to date at the same time as the finishes.

A Finished Kitchen by Guardian

The white shaker kitchen with a navy island and quartz countertops in this photo is a Guardian project. In older New Rochelle homes, the kitchen is usually where a wall comes out to connect to the dining room, and that structural change goes on the drawings filed with the City.

Bathrooms, floors and trim are then planned to match, so the house reads as one design.

What We Check in an Older New Rochelle House

  • Whether the property is in a local historic district or is a designated landmark
  • Electrical service size and old wiring that should be replaced while walls are open
  • Plumbing condition, since new fixtures are filed and inspected separately
  • Whether the house is one- or two-family, and how to keep the other unit running
  • Plaster walls and older framing that affect demolition and scheduling

Phasing Around Your Family

For most whole-home projects we work in zones: often the kitchen and first floor, then the upstairs baths and bedrooms. That keeps part of the house usable for as long as possible. On a two-family house, we schedule shut-offs ahead with both households.

New Rochelle Whole-Home Remodeling FAQs

How is a whole-house renovation permitted in New Rochelle?

Through the City’s Buildings Department in City Hall, 515 North Avenue. Applications and drawings are filed online through the CitySquared portal, and plumbing is filed and inspected separately by fixture.

My house is in a historic district. What changes?

In a local historic district such as Rochelle Park–Rochelle Heights, exterior changes need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic and Landmarks Review Board before the building permit. Interior work is generally outside its review.

Can you work on a two-family house?

Yes. Many New Rochelle houses are two-family. We plan the work so the other unit keeps water, heat and power, and we confirm the legal use with the City before changing layouts.

Do you handle design?

We manage design and construction together and recommend an architect from several we work with, depending on the project.
