Whole-Home Remodeling in Tarrytown, NY

Westchester Whole-Home Remodeling Service Serving Tarrytown

Renovating Tarrytown houses inside and out, with the Village’s ARB rules for older homes built into the plan from day one.

The 1929 Line

Tarrytown, incorporated as a village in 1870 within the Town of Greenburgh, has a large stock of older houses on its hills above the Hudson. Village code treats houses built before 1929 differently: an addition of any size on one goes to the Architectural Review Board. Siding or roofing changes visible from the street can go there too when the material is not the same kind and style.

For a whole-home renovation that is the first thing we check, because it decides whether the schedule includes an ARB hearing.

Bathrooms Are Often Half the Scope

This bathroom, with marble-look wall and floor tile, a white double vanity and a sliding glass shower door, is a Guardian remodel. In older Tarrytown houses, a whole-home project often means redoing two or three bathrooms at once and replacing the old supply and drain lines behind them.

Kitchens, floors and electrical round out most of the projects we plan here.

Keeping the Schedule Realistic

If ARB review is needed, we prepare the submission with drawings, photos and material samples, file it ahead of the deadline, and keep interior design moving in parallel. Once approvals are in, the Building Department permit follows and construction runs room by room, with inspections at each stage.

Guardian Remodeling Corp

We have been building since 1980: five brothers working with our father, who spent his life in construction. Guardian holds Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24, carries insurance and gives a one-year written workmanship warranty. Licensed, insured subcontractors do the electrical and plumbing, supervised by a Guardian project manager, and we recommend an architect from several we work with when the design calls for one. We accept check, credit card, Zelle and cash, and offer financing through HFS Financial.

Tarrytown Whole-Home Remodeling FAQs

Does a Tarrytown renovation go to the Architectural Review Board?

If the exterior changes in certain ways, yes. Village code refers siding or roofing that is not the same kind and style, when visible from a public street, to the ARB, along with additions of any size on buildings built before 1929. The ARB has five members and meets on the third Wednesday of the month.

How early do ARB submissions have to be in?

The Village asks for initial submissions 18 days before the meeting and follow-up submissions 10 days before. We build that into the schedule so it doesn’t delay the permit.

Where is the Building Department?

At One Depot Plaza (914-631-3668). The Village says a permit is needed for almost all construction, and a whole-house renovation is filed there with drawings.

Can the interior be fully redone without board review?

Interior-only work, like kitchens, baths, floors and systems, is reviewed by the Building Department, not the ARB. It still needs a permit and inspections.
