Which code will my Yorktown renovation be reviewed under?

The Town of Yorktown reviews applications filed on or after December 31, 2025 under the 2025 New York State codes, including the 2025 Residential Code, Existing Building Code and Energy Code. Applications filed before that date stay under the 2020 codes. A whole-house renovation filed now is designed to the 2025 editions.

Where is the Building Department?

At Town Hall, 363 Underhill Avenue in Yorktown Heights (914-962-5722 x233). Applications are submitted through the Town’s online portal.

How are Town fees paid?

By check made payable to the Town of Yorktown, according to the Town’s fee schedule. The Town warns about fraudulent emails asking for wire transfers. It will never ask you to wire money, and neither will we.

Do I need an architect?

For layout changes, structural work or anything that changes the outside of the house, usually yes. Guardian works with several architects and recommends one depending on the type of project.
