Who issues permits in the Village of Brewster?

The Village Building Department at 50 Main Street (845-279-3760). It is a part-time office that sees people by appointment, generally Monday and Wednesday from 9 to 3. Homes outside the village line are in the Town of Southeast, which has its own department.

Does changing my floor plan involve the County Health Department?

It can. Putnam County Health says any renovation that changes an existing floor plan, or any addition that adds living space, needs its approval before a building permit is issued, because septic and water capacity are sized to the house.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster?

The Village has a dumpster permit form, and owners sign an owner-consent form when a contractor applies for them. We take care of both.

Will one company handle the whole renovation?
