Basement Finishing in Armonk, NY
Westchester Basement Finishing Service Serving Armonk
Lower-level living space for Armonk homes, with North Castle permits, septic and bedroom questions and licensed trades handled by Guardian.
Basements on Armonk Properties
Armonk is best known as IBM’s home, but most of the hamlet is residential: houses on larger lots, many on private wells and septic systems. That changes the basement conversation. A new bathroom has to tie into the septic, and adding a bedroom can affect how the County looks at the system.
So before layout, we confirm how the house is served, locate the septic tank and well, and decide what the new rooms will be called on the drawings.
Structure First
The framed opening with a beam and stair in this photo is Guardian work. Changing or opening up a basement stair is common when a lower level becomes real living space, and it is structural work that needs to be on the permit drawings.
North Castle’s guide asks that inspections be requested the day before, so we schedule each stage in advance and keep the crew working on other areas while we wait.

Armonk Basement Finishing FAQs
Who issues basement permits in Armonk?
Armonk is a hamlet in the Town of North Castle, so permits come from the North Castle Building Department at 17 Bedford Road (Town Hall Annex).
How long does plan review take?
The Town’s customer guide sets a goal of two to four weeks for the first review and two to three weeks for re-reviews. A complete application is the best way to stay on the short end.
My house has a septic system. Does a basement bedroom matter?
Yes. In New York, septic systems are sized by the number of bedrooms. On septic or well properties the Town can refer the application to the Westchester County Health Department, so we check before calling a basement room a bedroom.
Can I do my own electrical work?
North Castle requires electrical and plumbing work by Westchester County-licensed trades. Ours are licensed, insured subcontractors supervised by a Guardian project manager.
