Whole-Home Remodeling in Harrison, NY

Westchester Whole-Home Remodeling Service Serving Harrison

Inside-and-out renovations for Harrison, West Harrison and Purchase homes, with Architectural Review Board filings and building permits handled by Guardian.

In Harrison, the Outside Is Part of the Plan

A whole-home renovation often changes more than the interior: new siding, a reworked entry, a different roof line over an addition. In Harrison those exterior changes go to the Architectural Review Board, and the board judges the design partly by how it relates to the houses around it.

That is why we start Harrison projects by photographing the street. The ARB wants pictures of the neighboring homes anyway, and seeing them early helps us design something the board will approve the first time.

An Exterior Makeover With Real Presence

The black vertical siding, wood double doors and black garage door in this photo are Guardian exterior work. A facade change like this is exactly what Harrison’s ARB reviews, because it changes how the house reads from the street.

We pair this kind of exterior scope with the interior work, so scaffolding, dumpsters and permits are scheduled once instead of twice.

Harrison Whole-Home Remodeling FAQs

Does a whole-house renovation in Harrison need ARB approval?

If the outside changes, almost certainly. Harrison sends most residential construction to its Architectural Review Board, which meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Purely interior work is handled by the Building Department.

What is the 'excessive similarity' rule?

Harrison’s code (Section 235-66) lets the ARB look at whether a house is too similar to, or too different from, nearby homes within about 1,200 feet, considering things like roof lines, facade materials and overall design. A major exterior change gets judged against its neighbors.

What does the ARB submission include?

Two extra 11×17 plan sets and photos of at least two neighboring houses, filed by the Monday of the week before the meeting. ARB approval does not replace the building permit.

Who is the Building Department?

Harrison’s Building Department is at 1 Heineman Place (914-670-3050) and covers Harrison, West Harrison and Purchase.
