A bathroom is a small room with a lot going on behind the walls
Bathrooms look simple, but they concentrate water, heat, electricity and moisture into a few square feet. When one fails, it is rarely the tile itself. It is a shower pan that was never sloped correctly, a fan vented into the attic instead of outside, or a subfloor that softened around the toilet. A good remodel deals with those things first and makes the finishes the easy part.
Guardian Remodeling Corp is a family-run contractor working since 1980. We plan each bathroom from the framing out: drain and supply locations, waterproofing, ventilation, lighting and the finishes you choose. Plumbing and electrical work is done by licensed subcontractors supervised by Guardian, and you have one company responsible for the whole room.

What we check before we price a bathroom
From first visit to finished bathroom
1. Visit and measure
We look at the room, the plumbing below it and the access around it.
2. Written estimate
Scope, materials and price in writing.
3. Selections
Tile, vanity, fixtures and glass chosen and ordered.
4. Permit and demolition
Permit filed if needed; the old bath comes out behind dust protection.
5. Rough-in and inspection
Framing, plumbing, electrical and ventilation are installed and inspected.
6. Waterproofing, tile and finish
Membranes, tile, fixtures, glass and a final walkthrough with you.
Choosing finishes that hold up
Porcelain tile is the workhorse in most of the bathrooms we build: it is dense, stain-resistant and available in marble, stone and wood looks. Natural stone can be beautiful, but it needs sealing and gentler cleaners, which matters in a family bathroom. Large-format tile means fewer grout lines; small mosaics on a shower floor give better grip and make it easier to slope the floor to the drain.
For fixtures, pressure-balancing or thermostatic shower valves keep the water temperature steady when someone flushes elsewhere in the house. Lighting deserves as much attention as tile: light at the mirror for shaving and makeup, a separate fixture for the shower, and a night light or dimmer for late-night trips.
We are happy to look at a vanity or tile you have already found, and to tell you honestly whether it will work in the space.
Planning for the long term
If you expect to stay in the house for years, it is worth planning the bathroom for the way your needs may change. Blocking inside the walls lets you add grab bars later without opening tile. A shower with a low or no curb, a bench and a handheld shower head works for small children, guests and older family members alike. Wider doorways and lever handles cost little when the walls are already open.
None of these choices have to look clinical. Done well, they simply read as a well-designed bathroom.
Licensing, permits and working in your home
Guardian holds Westchester County Home Improvement License #WC-38383-H24 and Putnam County Home Improvement Contractor License #52594. Each city, town and village in the two counties has its own building department; we file the permit with the right one and schedule the inspections.
While we work, the path from the door to the bathroom is protected, the site is cleaned up at the end of each day, and you are told in advance about any water shut-off. Your workmanship warranty is 1 year from completion.

Bathroom remodeling FAQs
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom?
If the work moves plumbing, adds a fixture, changes electrical circuits or alters framing, your building department will usually require a permit. Replacing a vanity or retiling in place often does not. Guardian files the application when one is needed and schedules the inspections.
Can you add a bathroom where there is none now?
Often, yes. The questions are where the drain and vent can run, whether the floor framing can take the load, and, on septic, whether the system needs to be reviewed. We check all three before giving you a price.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Guardian holds Westchester County HIC #WC-38383-H24 and Putnam County HIC #52594, plus Connecticut Home Improvement Contractor registration HIC.0707535 and NYC General Contractor Registration #627789, and we are insured. Plumbing and electrical work is done by licensed subcontractors supervised by Guardian.
What warranty do you give on a bathroom remodel?
Our workmanship carries a 1-year warranty. Fixtures, tile and fittings also carry their manufacturers’ warranties.
Can you convert a tub to a walk-in shower?
Yes, that is one of the most common requests we get. The plan covers the drain location, the waterproofing system, the curb or curbless entry, glass and any blocking for grab bars.
Will we be able to use our other bathroom during the work?
In most homes, yes. We protect the path from the door to the bathroom and keep the rest of the house in use. If the remodel affects shared plumbing, we tell you in advance when water will be off.
How do I get started?
Call 914-912-0385 or send the form below. We visit, measure and follow up with a written estimate at no charge.
Do I need a full gut remodel, or can I just update the fixtures and finishes?
A cosmetic update replaces what you see, like the vanity, toilet, faucets, lighting, mirror and paint, and sometimes the floor tile. A gut remodel takes the room down to the studs and subfloor, so the waterproofing, shower valve, drains and wiring can be redone along with the new tile. A gut job usually makes sense when there are hidden-problem signs: a soft floor near the toilet, cracked grout or loose shower tile, stains on the ceiling below, or mold that keeps coming back. We’ll tell you which one we’d recommend after we see the room.
What goes into a tub-to-shower conversion?
Taking out a tub isn’t only a tile job. The drain often has to be moved or changed for the shower. The walls and floor need a continuous waterproofing system. You’ll need to choose a low curb or a curbless entry, and decide on a niche, a bench and the type of glass door or panel. We also add blocking in the walls now so grab bars can go in later. If it’s the last tub in the house, consider whether you’ll want one for small children, or for resale.
Does it matter whether it's a primary bath, a hall bath or a half-bath?
It does, mostly in scope. A powder room or half-bath has fewer fixtures and no shower, so the work centers on the vanity, toilet, lighting and finishes. A hall bath needs durable surfaces that stand up to daily use by kids or guests. A primary bath often adds a larger shower, a double vanity, more lighting and storage. More than the room’s size, the biggest factor is whether the plumbing stays where it is or moves. We’ll talk through your layout at the free estimate.
What should I think about for budget and timing before I call?
Generally, the biggest cost factors are whether it’s a gut or cosmetic remodel, whether plumbing moves, how much tile you’re using and what kind, custom glass, the fixtures you pick, and anything we find behind the walls. Timing depends on scope and on lead times for special-order items, so choosing them early helps you hold your start date. If financing helps, we offer personal loans through HFS Financial with no home equity needed. Checking your rate won’t affect your credit (financing page).
